Compost days in Seattle

A large pile of dark compost or soil sits on bare ground outdoors, surrounded by greenery and dried branches.

Compost Days Promotion
The City of Seattle and its partners are offering discounts on compost and kitchen scrap bins during Compost Days, now through April 15, 2013. The promotion celebrates the diversion of 125,000 tons of food scraps and yard waste from landfills last year—waste that was turned into nutrient-rich compost for gardens.

During Compost Days, buy two bags of compost and get the third free. You’ll also find deep discounts on bulk compost and kitchen scrap kits. Contact Ecoyards if you’d like help mulching your landscape beds with compost.

Why Use Compost?
Compost is decomposed organic material—like food scraps, grass clippings, and newspaper—that enriches soil and promotes healthy plant growth. It improves soil structure, retains water and nutrients, reduces runoff, and supports root development.

Compost products are available at local garden centers and hardware stores, or you can make your own at home. The City of Seattle offers resources on backyard composting and sells bins through the Seattle Conservation Corps and the Parks & Recreation Department.
